CLEVELAND MIDDLE SCHOOL LIBRARY BUDGET

The library recieves approximately $9 per student each school year.

The average number of students each year that attend the middle school is 450.
The average yearly budget for the CMS library is approximately $4050.

Each spring the library hosts a book fair. At the end of the book fair the library has the
option of either taking money or exchanging the money for books. The library always
picks books and therefore they take in about $1500-$2000 worth of books in additon
to their budget.

In addition, the library must purchase any and all supplies that they need using their budget.

Here is a sample of what the CMS budget might look like in any given year:

START:

$4,050

magazine subscriptions

$250/year

basic supplies (contact paper, transparencies, etc)
$500-800 year

newspaper subscriptions

$100/year

The budget for books varies. Each

year the SLMS tries to work on one

section of the collection, as well as

purchase specific materials that she

knows are being used in classes.

For example, last year the library spend most

of the budget on the reference section, buying

a new set of encyclopedias and dictionaries.

The SLMS also purchased new Greek mythology

books, new Holocaust books, and new presidental

biography books for specific classrooms.

Each year the SLMS also buys at least TWO copies
$180/year

of the nominated Sequoyah books. There are 15 books

nominated each year, about $11-12 each.

Equipment, such as computers, etc

$0/year

usually come out of the district fund, not the

library budget.
